Register for the launch of WHO Kangaroo Mother Care Global Position Paper and Implementation Strategy

April 20, 2023

The World Health Organization (WHO) is holding a webinar on 16 May, 15:30-17:00 CEST, to mark the of launch of two new policy and programmatic resources on kangaroo mother care (KMC) for premature and low birthweight babies. The resources include a global position paper and an implementation strategy directed at health policy makers, programme managers and the broader public health community.

These releases follow the landmark 2022 guidelines for the care of preterm or low birthweight infants, which recommended KMC as the essential standard of care – starting immediately after birth – for all babies born early (before 37 weeks of pregnancy) or small (under 2.5 kg at birth). KMC care is a proven, effective technique for saving the lives of these babies and improving their development and well-being.
