NeoIPC invites you to join the next session in the NeoNET Africa online Seminar Series 2026, taking place on 23 July 2026, 15:00–16:00 CEST/SAST.
NeoNET Africa is a network dedicated to tackling the pressing burden of neonatal deaths caused by bacterial infections in sub-Saharan Africa. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the network works to consolidate research, foster collaboration, and mobilise existing expertise into concrete, actionable solutions.
This one-hour online session brings together leading experts from across Africa to explore how surveillance data can drive effective infection prevention and improve outcomes in neonatal sepsis. Speakers will share practical lessons from setting up surveillance systems and real-world results from an infection prevention and control (IPC) bundle.
Prof. Angela Dramowski, representing NeoNET Africa and NeoIPC, will introduce the NeoIPC Surveillance Toolkit, a comprehensive resource designed to support surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in neonatal units. Developed for use across diverse healthcare environments, including low-resource settings, the toolkit provides a practical framework to strengthen HAI surveillance and inform targeted IPC interventions.
Programme:
- Chair: Dr Felicity Fitzgerald (Imperial College London / The Health Research Unit Zimbabwe)
- Lessons learned in setting up neonatal sepsis surveillance in African hospitals – Dr Christina Obiero (KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, Kenya)
- Use of an IPC bundle to reduce Klebsiella infection in three hospitals in Uganda – Dr Victoria Nakibuuka (Nsambya Hospital, Uganda)
- The NeoIPC toolkit: simplifying surveillance for healthcare-associated infections in neonates globally – Prof Angela Dramowski (NeoNET Africa / NeoIPC / Stellenbosch University, South Africa)
