On International Kangaroo Care Awareness Day, we are proud to launch NICU Journeys – a heartfelt video series that gives voice to the families navigating life in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

For many parents, the NICU is an unexpected and emotional stop on their journey. It's a world filled with beeping monitors, quiet strength and long days of waiting and hoping. NICU Journeys captures these moments through personal stories that highlight the love, resilience and critical role families play in caring for their premature babies.

This series not only honours their experiences, but also sheds light on the importance of infection prevention and control (IPC) practices and kangaroo care, which are essential to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of newborns in the NICU.

NeoIPC is a collaborative project committed to improving infection prevention and control across neonatal units in Europe and beyond. Through initiatives like NICU Journeys, we aim to support families, empower healthcare teams and raise awareness of simple practices that save lives.

We thank our NeoIPC partners from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Hippokration General Hospital of Thessaloniki for recording, editing and subtitling.
